The Guardian described those in the latter as though they were directed by someone who has never actually had sex. What better way to kick off this list than the sex scene widely regarded as the most unintentionally hilarious of all time. One particular sex scene is largely to blame, as the one-time Jessie Spano and should-know-better Kyle MacLachlan wildly thrash around in a swimming pool like a couple of dolphins caught in a fishing net.
Thankfully I have a job to do, and so here we are. And learning that she was in on the joke is rather a bummer; after all, intentional camp is not nearly so fun. But Elizabeth Berkley?
In addition to bombing, it also was massively ridiculed. Or are critics over-extending themselves to give extra service to Verhoeven, whose extremely violent and satiric Hollywood films pushed the blockbuster envelope in ways that no one dares to try today? Do they miss his bravado within the big budget, R-rated sphere? His inventive, and America Fuck Yeah!
The worst sex scene in the history of cinema, according to a recent survey by a British film magazine, is from the movie Showgirls. I know it well, because my beloved and I once hired the movie, hoping to have a romantic, raunchy evening together, and when we got to the bit where Elizabeth Berkley makes love to Kyle MacLachlan in a swimming pool and suddenly starts thrashing around like Plastic Bertrand in anaphylactic shock, my beloved just turned to me and said, "Hey, do you mind if we don't have sex tonight? Yes, Showgirls wasn't just a massive commercial flop - for so many of us men, it turned out to be a massive personal flop as well.
Paul Verhoeven's Showgirls is a trash masterpiece, a film that feels confused and tonally discordant, but one that we are perhaps still years away from really understanding. It's a garish Cinderella story that doubles as an allegory about fame and its cost. Revisiting it now with all its seediness and neon lighting, Verhoeven's style isn't that far removed from Nicolas Winding Refn.
An watery encounter from the film Showgirls has been named the worst sex scene in cinema. Empire film magazine said the scene, in which two actors couple energetically in a swimming pool, was the worst of hundreds it surveyed. New Zealand Herald.

She was at the top of her game, until a notorious film turned Elizabeth Berkley into a flop star, according to "Showgirls" director Paul Verhoeven. InBerkley was on the top of the showbiz world after gaining huge acclaim, fans and success with her role as Jessie Spano in "Saved by the Bell. But with one performance in the sex and nudity-laden cult movie that depicted the sleazy world of naked cabaret in Las Vegas strip clubs, Berkley's career and her image hit the skids.
